Theory and Composition

Dr. Tigran Tahmizyan
initially matriculated at the Tchaikovsky School of Music--a special school for talented music students in the former USSR--earning a degree in theory and piano performance. He continued his studies at the Komitas Conservatory and, in 1984, received his Bachelors Degree in Composition.

After moving to the United States, Dr. Tahmizyan continued his musical education at the University of Southern California ( USC ) Thornton School of Music from which he graduated with a Masters Degree in Composition, later going on to earn a Ph. D in Composition from the University of California of Los Angeles (UCLA). 

He is the author of numerous works for various ensembles and orchestras, many of which have been performed by renowned performers and conductors such as Zaven Vartanyan and Nodar Shubladze, and world-famous ensembles such as the Chilingaryan String Quartet and Kronos Quartet.

Dr. Tahmizyan has also performed extensively as a pianist in a variety of recitals and cultural events, and has received many composition awards, both in the former USSR and in the United States .

 He has taught piano, theory, and composition at all levels, both in private practice and in the academic world, including arrangements at USC and UCLA.

Arman Gushchyan is a renowned composer and pianist, known for his unique style that has won accolades from renowned Russian and European musicians and orchestras. He has authored over 30 compositions including works for musical theater and drama plays, which have been staged internationally.

Arman's education in music includes graduation with honors from Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where he studied composition. He went on to study in Switzerland at the Basle Music Academy and in Germany at the Dresden College of Music, where he earned the "Meisterklassen" graduate course in piano, composition, and computer music. His exceptional skills have won him numerous awards, including the Swiss Federal Excellence Scholarship and the German DAAD scholarship.

Arman has taught piano, theory, orchestration, and composition at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory and the University of Music Dresden, while giving private lessons throughout his career. In 2021 , he taught music theory and music and sound for theater at the HSE Art and Design School Moscow. Since 2022, Arman and his family have been residing in Los Angeles.
